Restore Your Oral Health And Aesthetics With Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry restores health and function to your smile after disease, decay, or trauma. They are used to restore your mouth to its original health and your smile back to its best appearance. Restorative dental care is important because it helps restore the function of your teeth and prevents further damage. It is the most common form of dental treatment and a great way to maintain your smile’s health and address aesthetic concerns.

What Are The Common Restorative Dentistry Services?

Your dentist may prescribe restorative dentistry treatment for a variety of reasons, including fixing missing or damaged teeth. Restorative dentistry can also include replacing old or unsightly crowns and bridges with more modern alternatives. The dentist may recommend this if a current crown or bridge does not fit properly anymore or if a patient would like something a little less conspicuous. Other common restorative dentistry treatments include fillings, root canals, surgical extractions, dental crowns, and dental implants. Fillings are used to treat cavities. This is a fairly routine procedure in which the cavity is removed and then filled with a material that will protect the tooth from further damage. Modern fillings now contain composite resins that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also stronger than their metal counterparts. If the enamel of a tooth has been damaged, the pulp of the tooth may become infected. This can cause pain and inflammation, as well as sensitivity when eating hot, cold, or even sweet foods and drinks. Root canal therapy is a restorative dentistry service that involves removing the diseased tissue from the tooth’s pulp. After this, it is then disinfected, filled, and finally sealed off for protection. If you need help with any of these treatments, you’re welcome to contact our office! We’re happy to help patients of all ages achieve beautiful and healthy smiles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Restorative treatments are often necessary when patients have decay or damage to their teeth. However, patients typically find treatments to be more comfortable than uncomfortable. Local anesthetics are available to numb the treatment area prior to administering any care. In addition, dentists use modern techniques and materials to make procedures as painless as possible, and sedation options are available for patients who experience anxiety during visits.
A crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth to restore its function and appearance. Crowns are sometimes called “dental caps” or “tooth crowns.” Dental crowns can be made from resin, metal, porcelain, or ceramic materials. Ceramic crowns are often used as a cosmetic restoration to improve the appearance of teeth that are misshapen or discolored. They can also be used to anchor a fixed bridge or cover dental implants.
CEREC® technology allows dentists to design and place all-ceramic crowns in a single appointment. The CEREC 3D software captures a digital image of the prepared tooth and uses this information to construct and design a custom-shaded crown made entirely of ceramics. Once the design is finished, the data is sent to an on-site milling machine where the ceramic crown is created. The dentist then places the finished crown onto the prepped tooth using a special medical-grade adhesive. Patients do not have to wait while a permanent crown is manufactured in a separate lab.
Dental bridges are a restorative treatment used to replace missing teeth. They consist of two crowns on the teeth on either side of the gap and a false tooth/teeth in between. This false tooth is called a “pontic.” Bridges can be made from metal, porcelain fused to metal, or ceramics such as zirconia for a natural appearance.
Dental implants are replacements for missing teeth that act and appear just like natural teeth. Implants are made of titanium metal posts which are surgically placed within your jawbone, beneath the gum line. The implants act as a base for bridges, dentures, or crowns to replace your lost teeth. They allow patients to have a fully functioning smile again!
